Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis Nurse Austen Carter Honored with Excellence Award
Apr 2, 2021Memphis, TN – April 2, 2021 – Saint Francis Healthcare is proud to recognize Austen Carter, RN as the most recent Daisy RN Award for Exceptional Nurses recipient at Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis.
Carter joined the Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis team in August 2019. He currently resides in Memphis and works as a registered nurse on the 5 Thompson cardiovascular stepdown unit.
Carter was nominated for the award by several patients. The first nomination reads, in part: “I would love to thank my nurse, Austen, for all he has done during my time at the hospital. I really appreciate him for the time and care he took with me. This was my first time being hospitalized. Austen really made me comfortable and took really good care of me. There were times that I began to feel sad but Austen was right there by my side to help me and uplift my spirits. He informed me of all my procedures and answered all of my questions. He is very good at what he does and you can tell he loves his job. He is the best nurse!”
A second nomination reads, in part: “Austen impressed me beyond imagination in rendering his professional services to me. He saw to my requests and needs without delay. He took the time to explain everything I wanted to know. He was very polite.”
“Receiving the Daisy RN Award is a great honor, especially during these unprecedented times,” said Carter. “It is a great feeling to know that my efforts have not gone unnoticed! The feeling of accomplishment at the end of my day is my favorite part about being a nurse. Each day is so fast-paced and challenging but when I reflect on my day during my drive home, I realize how critical my job is to the health and wellbeing of my patients. My favorite part about being a nurse at Saint Francis is learning how to adapt and work through a variety of situations. Many changes have taken place at SFH over the last year, and we as nurses adapt, prioritize, and ‘make it work’. My advice to aspiring nurses would be to trust your own process. Whether you are currently in nursing school or you are a brand new nurse, it is imperative to trust your own judgement and understand that we all walk a different line through this career. Things that work for you may not work for someone else but never doubt your abilities. Knowing your strength is good, but knowing your weaknesses is most important. When you feel weak, as another nurse and always offer to help one another. You simply cannot work at this by yourself!”
Saint Francis Healthcare awards nominated nurses with The Daisy Award. The award was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, a cancer patient who lost his battle after a brief period of time. The family was so impressed with the care and compassion the staff showed Patrick, they stated a foundation to have a way to honor nurses who demonstrate clinical excellence in a caring and compassionate manor.
