MEMPHIS, Tenn. – June 21, 2018 – Saint Francis Healthcare is pleased to announce a donation of 92,180 servings of cereal donated during its annual Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive June 1-8. Both Saint Francis Healthcare operations - Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis and Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett - participated in the week-long event by collecting boxes of cereals and monetary donations as well as by hosting various fundraisers and contests. In total, the two hospitals collected 92,180 servings of cereal to benefit the Mid-South Food Bank.
“The donations we collected during our Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive will help provide local children and adults struggling with hunger with a healthy breakfast during the summer, and I am so grateful for the support of our staff and community in this effort,” said Dr. Audrey Gregory, market chief executive officer, Saint Francis Healthcare. “Good nutrition is essential to good health, and we want to help lead the fight against hunger across the Mid-South.”
“We are grateful to Saint Francis Healthcare and its parent company, Tenet Healthcare, for hosting the Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive and to everyone who participated,” said Estella Mayhue-Greer, president and chief executive director, Mid-South Food Bank. “This collective effort and outpouring of support is amazing! Summer is a particularly tough time for many families because children are home from school and no longer have access to nutritious meals at school. This places an added financial strain on families struggling to eat healthy on limited budgets. The impact of the cereal drive helps us meet this need and ensures children have year-round access to healthy meals. We cannot thank Tenet Healthcare and Saint Francis Healthcare enough for their leadership in addressing this critical community health issue.”
