We are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience. To do so, we are actively working with consultants to update the website by increasing its accessibility and usability by persons who use assistive technologies such as automated tools, keyboard-only navigation, and screen readers.

We are working to have the website conform to the relevant standards of the Section 508 Web Accessibility Standards developed by the United States Access Board, as well as the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. These standards and guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. We believe that conformance with these standards and guidelines will help make the website more user friendly for all people.

Our efforts are ongoing. While we strive to have the website adhere to these guidelines and standards, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. If, at any time, you have specific questions or concerns about the accessibility of any particular webpage, please contact WebsiteAccess@tenethealth.com so that we may be of assistance.

CyberKnife®

Despite its name, CyberKnife® treatment involves no cutting and is a completely non-invasive procedure. The frameless, open construction of the machine allows patients to lie comfortably—in fact, many even opt to listen to music during treatment.  This system can effectively treat complex tumors located virtually anywhere in the body, including head, chest, abdomen and other sensitive areas, without traditional surgery.

The CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System is a noninvasive alternative to surgery that can effectively treat complex tumors located virtually anywhere in the body, including the prostate, lung, brain, intercranial (pituitary, meningioma, trigeminal neuralgia, GBM), liver, pancreas, spine and metastatic lesions.

Advanced Technology is On Your Side

CyberKnife® uses a cruise-missile guidance system to deliver treatment with unmatched precision.

Experience a Better Kind of Treatment

CyberKnife® treatment involves no blades and is a completely painless and non-invasive procedure.

Providing Treatment Close to Home

Our state-of-the-art facility is located just minutes from downtown Memphis, Tennessee.

How the CyberKnife® Works

The CyberKnife® delivers beams of high-dose radiation through computer-controlled robotic arm that moves slowly around the area of concern, continually adjusting for even the slightest patient movement. This precise delivery attacks the tumor while limiting exposure to the healthy tissue that surrounds it. During treatment, patients are free to relax and may breathe normally.

CyberKnife® treatments typically last 30-90 minutes and are performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure is completely painless, requires no recovery time and has minimizes the risk of harmful side effects.

Most patients are able to return to their normal lives immediately after receiving treatment. While other radiation therapy and radiosurgery systems require as many as 40 treatments, CyberKnife® usually requires no more than five treatments. CyberKnife®has unlimited reach, and can be used to treat even the most complex tumors located anywhere in the body.

About CyberKnife®

Our Treatment Process

Step 1: Consultation

At this appointment, you will meet your treatment care team. Your team will consist of the CyberKnife® radiation oncologist, your nurse coordinator, medical physicist, radiation therapists and may include other members of our care team

Step 2: Imaging

Your CyberKnife® physician may order an onsite CT scan to identify precise location, size and shape of the tumor or tumors for treatment. Additional imaging, such as MRI or PET scan, may also be required. These studies will help us customize your treatment plan to deliver the most accurate treatment possible.

Step 3: Marker Placement

Patients with tumors in the chest, abdomen, pelvis or other areas surrounded by soft tissue may require a short outpatient procedure for marker placement. Using sterilized needles, tiny gold seeds called fiducials are implanted to use as a point of reference and help accurately guide the CyberKnife®’s radiation beams. Although the fiducials are permanent they are harmless and unnoticeable.

Step 4: Simulation

About a week after the markers are placed, you’ll have a fitting of the supportive positioning devices that provide comfort and support during treatment. Next you’ll have a final CT scan with this equipment in place.

Step 5: Treatment Planning

Your treatment team will carefully review the imaging scans and plan your CyberKnife® treatment. You do not need to be present for this step.

Step 6: CyberKnife® Treatments

You will return to the Saint Francis Hospital for treatment that will last between 1 to 5 treatment days. You may want to consider having a friend or relative accompany you to lend support.
