Advanced Imaging and Diagnostic Technology

One of the first steps in treating any condition is an accurate diagnosis. In many cases, the starting point for doctors to make that diagnosis is to have clear, accurate images of the body. Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis’ two outpatient diagnostic imaging centers, TotalCare and Park Avenue Diagnostics, offer a wide range of diagnostic services in a convenient and patient-friendly environment.

Diagnostic Imaging Services

Both of our imaging centers are Medicare-certified and accredited by The Joint Commission. Services include (see below for descriptions):

  • MRI scan on two types of systems (open and closed)
  • CT scan
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Ultrasound
  • Bone densitometry
  • Fluoroscopic radiography
  • Diagnostic imaging/routine radiography

New Faster, More Comfortable MRI

The Hitachi Oasis Open MRI takes the claustrophobia out of the MRI experience without sacrificing crucial imaging results. We’re the first in the area to offer this faster open MRI that has extensive capabilities.

What kind of imaging services do I need?

MRI - Provides detailed images of the inside of the body using strong magnets and radio waves. We offer services on three different units: a 1.5 Tesla closed system, a 0.7 Tesla open system and a Hitachi Oasis 1.2 Tesla Open MRI

CT Scan - Combines X-rays and computer scans to create images of the body. The result is a detailed picture that can show soft tissues, organs and bones.

Nuclear Medicine - Involves the use of small amounts of radioactive materials (or tracers) to help diagnose and treat a variety of diseases. (At Total Care Imaging only)

Ultrasound - Uses sound waves to form pictures of the body's interior.

Bone Densitometry - Uses low-energy X-rays to scan the lower back, hip or forearm. This helps to diagnose osteoporosis, a disease that weakens bones and makes them more brittle and susceptible to fracture. (At Total Care Imaging only)

Fluoroscopic Radiography - An X-ray that obtains real-time images of the body's internal structures.

Diagnostic Imaging/Routine Radiography - Uses a small amount of radiation to create X-ray images of bones and organs.

Digital Mammography – Screening and Diagnostic Mammography is offered at Park Avenue Diagnostic Center and the Women’s Center at Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis.
