MAKO Robotic Surgery Technology

Hip problems don’t have to hold you back. Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis is the first in Memphis to offer the MAKOplasty® Total Hip Arthroplasty technology. MAKOplasty is a minimally invasive hip resurfacing surgery technique for adults with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis. MAKOplasty is performed using RIO®, a highly advanced, surgeon-controlled robotic arm system. This system enables the surgeon to create a customized surgery plan that includes optimized implant positioning using a CT scan of the patient’s hip. During the surgery, the surgeon uses feedback from the robotic arm to make real-time adjustments for a more accurate and successful surgery.

Compared to traditional hip replacement surgery, MAKOplasty potentially offers:

  • Reduced pain
  • Minimal hospitalization
  • More rapid recovery
  • Less implant wear and loosening
  • Smaller scar
  • Better motion and a more natural feeling hip
