Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis Earns ‘A’ Grade for Patient Safety For 5th Consecutive Year

Jun 29, 2016

This achievement puts Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis in the top 100 hospitals in the nation to reach this level of patient safety excellence

Memphis, TN (June 30, 2016) ― Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis has been honored with its 9th consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital industry watchdog. This marks 5 years running in being recognized for providing patients and the community with the utmost safety and care.

The hospital is one of only 98 hospitals across the nation to have achieved this level of patient safety excellence. To put this in perspective, The Leapfrog Group evaluated and graded more than 2,500 hospitals nationwide, with less than one-third receiving an “A” grade.

“The physicians and staff of Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis are focused on improving outcomes and enhancing the safety of the care we deliver to our patients,” said Audrey Gregory, Saint Francis Healthcare Market CEO. “This recognition is a reflection of our staff’s hard work and validation that patient safety is a top priority at our hospital.”

Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis and Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett were the only two hospitals in the Memphis area to receive an “A” grade this year. In Tennessee, just 24 hospitals received an “A” grade.

“This honor demonstrates Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis’ entire staff’s commitment to providing quality care, and their efforts to keep our patients as safe as possible,” said Phil Perry, M.D., Tenet Southern Region Chief Medical Officer.

The Hospital Safety Score was calculated under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group. The Hospital Safety Score is designed to provide consumers with information they need when making decisions about a hospital stay. The Leapfrog Group’s nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel calculates the Hospital Safety Score. The panel uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score that represents a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.
