What is your "heart age"? Heart age, or cardiac age, is a number that measures your cardiac risk level. It is based on your blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides.

The average age of a person in the United States is 38 years old. However, researchers have discovered that adults have a “heart age” that averages seven years older than their actual age. In addition, Tennessee has one of the highest percentages in the United States of adults with heart ages five or more years older than their actual age.

The most common reasons for a higher heart age that can be changed or managed include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and diabetes. Making changes to reduce risk of cardiac disease can make a person’s heart younger.
