Core Measures of Quality at Saint Francis Hospital

In order to help you make informed choices when choosing a hospital, the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA) reports data on hospitals’ performance quality. The HQA consists of organizations that represent consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations and federal agencies, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis is just one of many hospitals that report clinical data to the HQA, which then posts the information as hospital quality measures. A quality measure is medical information from patient records converted into a rate or percentage showing how well hospitals care for patients. These quality measures can be used by consumers to compare hospitals.

Hospital quality measures currently tracked by the HQA include:

  • Four measures related to heart attack care
  • Three measures related to heart failure care
  • Two measures related to pneumonia care
  • Nine measures related to surgical care improvement project (SCIP)
